Second topic for blog discussion

Alright, so for my honors requirement for this class I need to start a series of blogs on a topic of my choice relating to NetArt.

Since I'm relatively new to the whole world of 'blogging' I thought it'd be interesting to look furthering into various 'blogging' and communication sites (Blogger.com, Myspace, Facebook --> the more well-known ones... and to sites like Rhizome.org --> a 'facebook' type site for artists, mostly in the 'new media' field.)
I want to figure out the effect these sites have had on artwork, specifically netart. Has it increased interest in artwork, or watered it down?

A few topics I definitely want to touch on in my next set of blog entries:

I want to look at the design of the sites themselves..What design elements stand out the most? What makes them effective? And what do they all have in common?

Is there aspects about the sites themselves that would put them in the category of NetArt?

What effect, if any, did I find that they have on the spread of NetArt (and art in general)?

If they do have an effect on the spread of artwork, has it been positive? Is this the most effective way for individuals to advertise their artwork?

Has it had a negative impact on traditional ways of viewing artwork (galleries, museums, etc.)?

Has it made it easier for people to consider themselves artists by allowing pretty much any individual to showcase his/her work?

I plan on researching a lot of these sites to generate my opinions on most, if not all, of these questions. I'll provide links to examples of sites and pictures to help back up my assertions. I look forward to working on this! And I'll title the upcoming entries as follows: Art and Communication Entry 1, etc.
